Problem Statement: Poor communication skills greatly contribute to the mistrust that is often experienced between patients and healthcare providers and this could inadvertently result to incompetent and unsafe healthcare practices.

Mission Statement:This online course provides access to the simple tips and most appropriate interaction styles for improving the soft skill of communication to help reduce the common anxieties, fears, mistrusts that are easily prevalent in a highly emotionally charged atmosphere as the healthcare setting. It ultimately helps promote productive relationships between healthcare providers and patients. This activity is targeted to healthcare professionals in the healthcare settings.

Educational objectives:

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

1.) Interact with patients of diverse attitudes and attributes to build productive clinician-patient relationships during clinical consultations.

2.) Assist patients to feel comfortable in their presence especially patients whose attitudes are a manifestation of their underlying anxieties about the clinical experience.

3.) Use of strategic interaction skills to build trust with patients within a short time period while allaying patients fears and apprehensions about the healthcare system.

4.) Practice the act of compassion by effectively engaging with patients using soft skills of effective communication.

5.) Implement various communication styles with patients.
